The date of the 2012 NYQP:
Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012: 1400 UTC thru Oct. 21, 0200 - 12 Hours
(Third Saturday in October)
2012 News: Youth Class
The NYQP continues to support a Youth class for 2012. We have 2 plaques sponsored for Youth operators, one for Youth under the age of 12 and one for Youth between 13 and 17 years of age. NYQP wants to help out with getting our young operators active. If you know a young operator, now is the time to get him/her active and on the air for some fun. See the NYQP rules section.
2012 News: Rover Class
The NYQP continues to expand the Rover class for 2012. This class is in addition to the NYQP Mobile class. The fundamental difference is that Mobile only allows antennas that could be used in motion. See the NYQP rules section.
Rovers and Mobiles should check out the NYQP County Activity Map. See if any of those sparsely activated counties can be activated!
County Activity statistics have been posted for 2011!
The NYQP Logging Team has compiled some interesting county activity statistics (thanks to Ken, N2ZN)
Visit the county information page before you plan any rover or mobile activities, you may be surprised. Information presented there is based upon log submissions for 2009 and 2010 and averaged. Get the real story of what some of the hottest counties are to activate.
Contest Rookies
(September 3, 2010) The New York QSO Party announces Rookie Operator class!
The NYQP has instituted a new entry class for operators that have received their Amateur Radio ticket since January 1, 2008. The Rookie Operator Award will feature a NYQP plaque to the operator with the best NYQP score for 2011.
Compete with others rookies that are also new to our great hobby. Let the folks with towers, amps and experience fight among themselves! Just follow the NYQP rules (rules.php) and enter as a Single Operator using Low Power. We will take care of the rest.
With a QSO Party primarily for US/Canadian stations, signals are sure to be strong. See if radio contesting is for you (it was for me!). Learn about propagation, search & pouncing, running, logging software and more. You will finish a better operator... guaranteed.
This award can only be presented to an operator once. See all the details at: faq.php
Get ready for the NYQP! October 20, 2012.
